Lukashenko Prohibits Issuance of Belarusian Passports Abroad

Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has signed a decree banning the issuance, extension, and modification of Belarusian passports by the country's diplomatic missions abroad. This information was reported by Kommersant.ru.

According to the decree, Belarusian citizens will only be able to obtain or change their passports at internal affairs authorities at their last registered residence. The decree will come into force after being published on Belarus's national legal internet portal. The government is expected to have no more than three months to implement the decree.

On December 14, the Belarusian parliament passed a bill proposing the revocation of Belarusian citizenship for those engaged in extremist activities and causing significant harm to the interests of the state. This law was signed by Alexander Lukashenko earlier this year.
