Erdogan-Putin Meeting Was Unproductive, Says Hovhannisyan
Erdogan-Putin meeting was unproductive. Military expert Karen Hovhannisyan wrote this on his Facebook page, recalling that initially it was planned for Putin to travel to Turkey, but that intention was canceled, after which Erdogan decided to go to Russia for a meeting with Putin.
“After passing this phase, on September 4, the second phase took place—Putin-Erdogan meeting in Russia. It is noteworthy that Erdogan was quite confident that the meeting would yield results, and moreover, that specific documents would be signed, if not political ones, at least economic ones. A vivid proof of this is also the composition of the representative group, where the economic bloc was quite noticeable.”
“Nevertheless, the meeting lasted an hour and a half and was unproductive. Since last night, Erdogan's political opponents have also been discussing this, rightly noting that the myth of Erdogan's regional reputation has evaporated. It was also very important to note Erdogan's promises to the West, which, in essence, were not fulfilled. Erdogan had promised that he would convince his friend Putin at least regarding the grain deal. I can confidently say that Erdogan has found himself in a very bad situation.”
“Will he be able to maintain his reputation as a solver of issues and someone proud of his authority ahead of the elections, fulfilling the promises given to the West, or not? I think he will not be able to do so at this stage. And after being rejected by Putin, I believe he will become furious and may take a tougher stance towards Russia. In the coming days or weeks, it will become clear,” wrote Hovhannisyan.
Earlier, it was reported that the presidents of Russia and Turkey, Vladimir Putin and Recep Tayyip Erdogan, had met in Sochi.
