Protests in Northern Iraq: One Dead and Injured
During protests in the Kirkuk province of northern Iraq, one person has died and 11 others have been injured. The authorities have imposed a curfew in the region and instructed law enforcement to maintain order, according to the Iraqi Shafaq News agency.
"One person has died, and 11 have been injured due to violent actions during the protests in the province (Kirkuk)," the agency reported.
In response, Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed al-Sudani's press service announced that he ordered the imposition of a curfew in the province. A large-scale operation by security forces has also begun to ensure safety in the troubled areas.
As noted by Yahya Rasoul, the official spokesman for the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, on X (formerly Twitter), units of those services will detain anyone who attempts to "disrupt the security of Kirkuk." Only members of the security forces are allowed to carry weapons, Rasoul stated.
