The Situation in Nagorno-Karabakh Has Always Been Under the Control of Its Authorities Since 2018, Says Pashinyan
At this moment, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan is giving an interview live to the Italian newspaper La Repubblica.
When asked how visible peace is between Armenia and Azerbaijan, Pashinyan stated, “It is very difficult to assess. Initially, we progressed quickly because we focused on the articles for which the disagreements might not have been so significant. However, as more articles are agreed upon, the remaining unagreed ones tend to be more challenging and their implications follow.”
A journalist asked, “Do you think that handing over control of Nagorno-Karabakh to Azerbaijan is the price that must be paid for peace?” Pashinyan noted that the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh has always been under the control of its authorities, at least since 2018. Even today, the situation is being controlled by the authorities of Nagorno-Karabakh, and Russian peacekeepers are also present there.
“This is about something else. If Armenia and Azerbaijan do not mutually recognize each other's territorial integrity based on the Almaty Declaration, it means that there will never be peace,” he concluded.
