Firefighting Operations Result in Death of Vayots Dzor Rescue Service Chief

During firefighting operations, the chief of the Vayots Dzor regional rescue service's crisis management center, Colonel Armen Gasparyan, experienced a sudden decline in health and passed away on the way to the hospital, according to the Ministry of Emergency Situations.

On September 2, at 11:08 AM, information was received that a fire had broken out in the mountains near the village of Martiros in the Vayots Dzor region. Three combat teams from the Ministry of Emergency Situations, five operational groups, two teams from the special rescue operations center, as well as volunteer rescuers from the Martiros community and a water supply team from the Vayk community, were involved in extinguishing the fire.

The spread of the fire toward the villages of Martiros and Khndzorut has been halted, and firefighting efforts were focused toward the villages of Por and Zaritap.

During the firefighting operations, the health of Colonel Armen Henrik Gasparyan, the head of the crisis management center of the Vayots Dzor regional rescue service, sharply deteriorated. He was transported to the Vayk medical center, where he later passed away on the way.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Ministry of Emergency Situations share in the sorrow of Armen Gasparyan's loss and extend their condolences to his family members, relatives, and colleagues.
