Rabies Diagnosed in Dog that Bit Four Children

Inspectors from the Food Safety Inspectorate of Armenia's Vayots Dzor region have submitted a stray dog that bit children in Yeghegnadzor to a laboratory examination. The dog was euthanized by rescue workers yesterday.

Results from the investigation have recently confirmed that the dog was diagnosed with rabies. It has been noted that the children received appropriate medical assistance at healthcare facilities in Yerevan.

The Inspectorate urges heightened vigilance regarding animal behavior, as animals infected with rabies become restless and aggressive, exhibiting thick frothy discharge from the mouth and difficulty in ingesting food and water. This disease can affect not only stray and wild animals but also domesticated dogs and cats.

Domestic pets require regular vaccinations, including one against rabies each year.

It is worth recalling that earlier reports indicated a rabid dog had bitten four children aged between 3 to 11 in Yeghegnadzor. They have since been transferred to the hospital.
