US Calls on All Nuclear-Armed States to Declare Moratorium
The United States is urging all nuclear-armed countries to declare a moratorium on testing their nuclear weapons. According to a report by RIA Novosti, this statement was made during a UN General Assembly meeting by Bonnie Jenkins, the US Deputy Secretary of State for Arms Control.
“We were the first to sign the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty in September 1996. Since then, the US has maintained a complete moratorium on nuclear testing. The US calls on all nuclear-armed nations to declare or maintain such a moratorium,” Jenkins stated.
*A moratorium is a suspension of certain activities, which in this case refers to the testing of nuclear weapons, typically enacted in response to specific demands or circumstances.
