Two of the Abducted Young Men Recently Completed Their Service, Alen Sargsyan Got Engaged Days Ago

All three young men abducted by Azerbaijan were football players and avid fans of the sport. Vahe Hovsepyan and Leon Grigoryan had just completed their military service, while Alen Sargsyan had recently become engaged. This information was reported by MediaHub.

In an interview with the media outlet, a friend of the young men shared that all three families are in a difficult situation, and the events have created an incomprehensible and hopeless problem for them.

When asked if the young men were unaware they were targeted by the enemy upon entering Armenia, the friend replied: “We learned about this from Azerbaijani media two years ago, and we thought that things had calmed down. But these lists should not have been kept by the parents or the young men themselves; the state should have known about it and followed it.”

The website notes that Alen was coming to Yerevan to continue his studies at the Armenian National Agrarian University, while Leon had been accepted into the State Institute of Physical Culture and Sport of Armenia.

It is recalled that on August 28, residents of Nagorno-Karabakh Alen Sargsyan, Vahe Hovsepyan, and Leon Grigoryan were abducted by Azerbaijani law enforcement at an illegal checkpoint established in the Lachin corridor. Later, Azerbaijan's General Prosecutor's Office issued a statement claiming that the youths had been arrested for disrespecting the Azerbaijani flag. The General Prosecutor's Office of Azerbaijan noted that a decision had been made to cease criminal proceedings against the young men, and they would be 'expelled from Azerbaijani territory' after a 10-day detention.
