Russian Director Gleb Panfilov Dies at 90
Gleb Panfilov, a renowned director and People's Artist of the RSFSR, has passed away at the age of 90, as reported by Mark Varshaver, director of the Lenkom Theatre, to Interfax.
"Unfortunately, we have lost a great director, our theatre's friend Gleb Anatolyevich Panfilov," Varshaver stated.
He recalled that the director had been recovering from illness in recent months.
Gleb Panfilov was born on May 21, 1934, in Magnitogorsk. He is known for directing films such as "Vassa", "In the First Circle", "Mother", "Theme", and "One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich".
Panfilov was a laureate of the Locarno, Venice, and Berlin film festivals. In 1990, he received a special prize at the Cannes Film Festival for outstanding artistic achievements for his film "Mother".
