Two Citizens from Azerbaijan and Ten from Turkey Apply for Asylum in Armenia
Two citizens from Azerbaijan and ten from Turkey have filed applications for asylum in Armenia. One of the applications from the Azerbaijani citizens has been terminated, and the status of the second is not specified. Among the ten Turkish applicants, two applications were terminated, one was rejected, and the status of the remaining applications has not been disclosed. This information has been provided by the Ministry of Internal Affairs’ Migration and Citizenship Service.
According to the service, in the first half of 2023, a total of 440 individuals have sought asylum in the Republic of Armenia. Out of these, 156 applications were terminated, 55 were rejected, and 179 individuals were granted refugee status. In the first half of 2023, the majority of asylum seekers came from Iraq, with 131 people, followed by Ukraine with 115 individuals, and Iran with 40. Russia ranks sixth on the list, with only 18 applicants seeking asylum in Armenia.
