France Denies Plans to Invade Niger

Algeria did not allow a French military aircraft to enter Niger, while Morocco granted permission, according to Algerian radio, which labeled this move as indicative of invasion plans. France has denied any plans to invade Niger, where it has a military base.

The exact meaning of what the Algerian authorities imply by military action remains unclear, as France's Foreign Ministry has dismissed reports of preparations for intervention.

Algeria supports the ousted President Mohamed Bazoum and insists that it will use only peaceful means to restore constitutional order. “Algeria calls for caution and restraint amid foreign military intervention plans, which are unfortunately considered possible and acceptable options, while they only complicate the situation and exacerbate the current crisis,” the Algerian Foreign Ministry stated.

“Military intervention could ignite the entire Sahel region, and Algeria will not use force against its neighbors,” said Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune.

A source within the Algerian government explained to Reuters that the authorities are concerned about the risk of an influx of migrants from Niger and other potential consequences.
