ECOWAS Ready for Military Intervention in Niger
ECOWAS is prepared for military intervention in Niger if diplomatic efforts fail. This was announced by the community's Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace, and Security, Abdel-Fattah Moussa.
“Let no one doubt that if all else fails, the brave forces of West Africa are ready to respond to the call... With all available means, constitutional order will be restored in the country,” he stated.
Earlier, the head of Niger’s ruling National Council for the Safeguard of the Homeland (CNSP), General Abdourahamane Tchiani, gave a “green light” to start negotiations with the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
According to him, Niger's new leadership views confidently the upcoming talks with representatives of the regional alliance in the coming days.
