Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry Comments on the OSCE Chairperson’s Call to Unblock the Lachin Corridor
Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry has commented on the call by the OSCE Chairperson Buğyar Osmani to unblock the Lachin corridor. In Baku, it was announced that "dozens of ethnic Armenian residents of Azerbaijan cross in both directions through the Lachin border checkpoint every day," referring to the transportation of severely ill patients by the ICRC.
“As in any other country, border crossings in Azerbaijan are well-regulated, and the concept of 'free passage' does not exist anywhere. Regarding the large-scale delivery of cargo to the region, Azerbaijan has allocated the Aghdam-Khankendi (the Azerbaijani name for Stepanakert) route for this purpose, which Armenians could have used if they had not violated the terms of the agreement 10 days ago,” stated Ayhan Hacizade, head of the press service.
It is worth reminding that OSCE Chairperson Buğyar Osmani wrote: “I reiterate my call for free passage through the Lachin corridor. Simultaneously, other routes should also be opened. Humanitarian factors must always take precedence. Dialogue on political issues must continue, and the OSCE is ready to support this.”
