Turkish Intellectuals Unite to Prevent Humanitarian Catastrophe in Artsakh
Turkish politicians, writers, and human rights defenders have come together to call on the international community for immediate intervention to alleviate the humanitarian crisis in Artsakh caused by Azerbaijan's blockade. This was reported by Gerceknews, which published the names of those who have united around this idea and signed the appeal.
The dire situation has prompted a group of influential Turkish figures to raise their voices in favor of international actions aimed at lifting the blockade and providing assistance to the besieged residents. They are convinced that it is unacceptable to wait for a humanitarian disaster to unfold before taking action.
"It is clear that essential supplies cannot be delivered to Artsakh, and the residents are trapped without access to emergency medical assistance. Alongside the deepening of the crisis and renewed international concerns, the authoritarian ruler of Baku, Ilham Aliyev, continues to openly and repeatedly threaten the people of Artsakh. The situation has escalated to the point where the former chief prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, Luis Moreno Ocampo, has published a report characterizing Aliyev's actions in Artsakh as genocide," the group's statement reads, urging all governments, international organizations, particularly the UN and the ICRC, as well as the international community to take an active stance on this issue.
The statement draws a historical parallel with the aftermath of World War II: "Just as the Berlin blockade was breached by air transport in 1948-49, we call for the blockade of Artsakh to be broken through air supply routes, thus putting an end to this humanitarian tragedy," the intellectuals noted.
