Armenia Wins First Medal at Youth Wrestling World Championships
From August 14, the Youth Wrestling World Championships have commenced in Jordan. In the freestyle wrestling competitions, Armenia has secured its first medal: 57 kg weight class athlete Edik Harutyunyan has won a bronze medal. This information was reported by the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports.
The Armenian wrestler started with a confident victory but lost in the next match against a representative from the USA. Since the American reached the finals, Edik Harutyunyan was given the opportunity to compete in the repechage round.
With a 6-3 victory in the repechage, Harutyunyan advanced to the bronze medal match. In the fight for the medal, the Armenian wrestler defeated Azerbaijani Ruslan Abdulayev with an 8-4 score.
On August 16, Mousheg Mkrtchyan in the 86 kg category and Knyaz Iboyan in the 92 kg category will compete for bronze medals.
