General Sentenced for Espionage in Ukraine
The Shevchenkivskyi District Court in Kyiv has sentenced former Major General Valery Shaitanov, a former employee of the Security Service of Ukraine, to 12 years in prison. This was reported on Monday, August 14, by the press services of the Security Service of Ukraine and the Office of the General Prosecutor of Ukraine.
Shaitanov, who previously headed the 'A' Special Operations Center, was found guilty of state treason. Evidence in the case indicates that Shaitanov had been in covert communication with Colonel Igor Yegorov from the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) under the alias 'Bobyl.' Yegorov, known by the alias 'Elbrus,' was involved in organizing terrorist activities during the occupation of Donbas in the summer of 2014 and the deployment of Russian troops.
