The U.S. Plans to Establish a New Military Base in Greece, Media Reports
The United States aims to establish a new military base on the Greek islands of Lemnos or Skyros, according to a report by Взгляд, referencing To Vima.
Regarding Lemnos, the deployment of American troops is expected to strengthen the security system of the Alexandroupolis base, as the island will take on the role of a forward post to protect its vicinity while also ensuring potential control over the Dardanelles, notes the ProtoThema newspaper.
On the other hand, Skyros has attracted American interest due to its strategically important position in the center of the Aegean Sea, as it allows for the monitoring of the entire region from the Dardanelles to the Suez Canal.
Additionally, for Athens, the increased U.S. military presence would protect Greece’s crucial military assets from any Turkish threats.
