Record High Temperatures Surpass Historical Averages in Armenia
In the past four days, the territory of Armenia has been under the influence of tropical warm air masses that have penetrated from the Arabian Peninsula, resulting in exceptionally high temperature levels that are 5-7 degrees above normal across the entire country.
According to the Hydrometeorology and Monitoring Center, the highest temperatures in the republic were recorded on August 12: in Yerevan - +41.0 °C, in Artashat - +40.4 °C, in Ararat Valley - +40.5 °C, and in Ashtarak - +40.0 °C. These recorded maximum temperatures exceeded all historical records for these specific dates. In Yerevan, the temperature was 0.7 °C higher than the previous record of +40.3 °C set in 2006; in Artashat, it surpassed the last record of +40.0 °C established in 2003 by 0.4 °C; and in Ashtarak, it exceeded the previous high of +39.7 °C from 2003 by 0.3 °C.
On August 13, maximum temperatures were registered as follows: in Yerevan - +40.7 °C, in Ararat Valley - +40.5 °C, and in Armavir - +40.0 °C. Once again, these maximum temperatures surpassed historical values for those dates, with Yerevan's temperature exceeding its previous record of +39.5 °C from 2006 by 1.2 °C; Ararat Valley surpassing its last record of +39.6 °C from 2006 by 0.9 °C; and Armavir exceeding its historical high of +39.1 °C from 1955 by 0.9 °C.
It is worth noting that the severe heat is expected to continue.
