Unified Efforts Needed from the Civilized World: Mirzoyan Discusses with Belgian Foreign Minister

On August 11, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan had a phone conversation with Belgian Foreign Minister Hadja Lahbib. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Minister Mirzoyan outlined the deteriorating humanitarian crisis in Nagorno-Karabakh due to the blockage of the Lachin corridor by Azerbaijan, emphasizing the dire conditions created for the 120,000 residents of Nagorno-Karabakh. The foreign minister particularly highlighted the severity of the situation for vulnerable groups, including pregnant women, the elderly, and individuals with chronic illnesses, noting that "they are deprived of necessary medication and medical support."

Attention was also drawn to the importance of ensuring the full and unimpeded operation of the only international humanitarian organization with access to Nagorno-Karabakh, the International Committee of the Red Cross. Minister Mirzoyan stressed that "similar humanitarian crises cannot be the problem of just one country; unified efforts from the civilized world are necessary for the unblocking of the Lachin corridor and the restoration of unimpeded communication between Nagorno-Karabakh and Armenia and the rest of the world."

"During the phone conversation, the bilateral agenda was also discussed, with both sides expressing readiness to take steps towards developing cooperation between Armenia and Belgium, including through high-level reciprocal visits," the statement added.
