Statement from the Republican Party of Armenia Regarding Participation in Yerevan City Council Elections
The Executive Body of the Republican Party of Armenia has decided not to participate in the upcoming Yerevan City Council elections scheduled for September 17, 2023. This announcement was made on the party's official Facebook page.
On August 11, 2023, a regular meeting of the Republican Party's Executive Body was held under the chairmanship of the third President of Armenia and the party's President, Serzh Sargsyan. The meeting discussed the question of the Republican Party of Armenia's participation in the upcoming Yerevan City Council elections. The Executive Body decided not to participate in the elections with a party list and to focus its efforts on addressing the dire security situation surrounding Armenia and Artsakh through domestic and international efforts.
At the same time, the Executive Body of the Republican Party of Armenia calls on all party members and supporters to exclusively support national forces with genuine opposition views in the electoral struggle.
Additionally, the meeting discussed the humanitarian disaster resulting from Azerbaijan's illegal blockade of Artsakh, along with a range of international, domestic, and intra-party issues.
