Entry to Athens Acropolis Limited to 20,000 Visitors Daily

The Greek authorities are imposing restrictions on the number of visitors to the Acropolis. Starting in September, the Athens archaeological complex will allow a maximum of 20,000 people per day, according to Euronews.

Beginning in September, the Acropolis of Athens—Greece's most famous archaeological site—will permit only 20,000 visitors daily. There will also be a limit on the number of people allowed per hour.

Until now, the complex has been visited by up to 23,000 people daily, with large groups arriving mainly before noon. Greece's Minister of Culture Lina Mendoni stated that the implementation of these controls is necessary to prevent the destruction of the monument, which is included on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
