Cognac-Loving Authorities Purchase Cognac Worth 34 Million Drams

The Yerevan municipality has purchased 1,000 bottles of cognac from the Yerevan Cognac Factory for a total of 23 million 700 thousand drams, in two contracts, in honor of the city’s 2799th anniversary. According to the agreement, the cognacs should feature the number 2799 and the coat of arms of Yerevan. This is reported by the 'Zhoghovurd' newspaper.

A similar contract was also signed in April 2018 for a total of 11 million 850 thousand drams.

It seems that the authorities have a penchant for cognac. For instance, the Prime Minister's office purchased cognacs from Vino Vino LLC in 2019 and 2021 for a total value of 2 million 77 thousand drams. The reasons for such acquisitions remain unclear, as they are not detailed in the documents.

It is worth recalling that the Yerevan Cognac Factory is managed by the French company Pernod Ricard, which, as was clarified earlier this year, has officially ceased exports to Russia.
