What Is Hayk Marutyan's Main Motivation for Participating in the Elections?
Yesterday, former Yerevan Mayor Hayk Marutyan officially announced that he will participate in the city council elections as part of the "National Progress" party list.
According to the newspaper "Zhoghovurd," after prolonged discussions, Marutyan made his final decision, and even his close associates were only informed of this decision yesterday. It's noteworthy that many of his closest people were, to put it mildly, astonished by Hayk's decision, as they understood that Marutyan's main motivation is not the future betterment of the city but rather a petty vendetta against the current authorities.
Those close to Marutyan candidly express during various gatherings that Hayk knows himself that investigations are underway regarding several cases of misconduct during his term, including one involving his wife, Iva Marutyan. Therefore, he has decided to take a cunning step: to participate in the city council elections, politically maneuver all criminal cases, and attempting to offer the residents of Yerevan a thesis of being a "real revolutionary" while concealing his internal fears and heart palpitations.
