Video: Signing a document will not be easy for Pashinyan, and this is where the danger lies - Oskanian
In this perhaps unresolved conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan, we have a lever in our hands, stated former Armenian Foreign Minister Vardan Oskanian.
“This is the so-called lever of signing or not signing a peace agreement. That lever has weakened considerably today, as the Armenian authorities have already announced in advance what document they will be signing, having previously stated that Artsakh is part of Azerbaijan, and that they are ready to cede territories from Armenia, and all of these have weakened that lever. However, perhaps these are verbal agreements. The lever of signing something in writing has not yet lost its strength. I believe we should use that lever in the best way so that we do not bring a new war upon ourselves,” said Oskanian.
He noted that the way in which this lever is being used carries serious dangers, and the likelihood of war is increasing day by day.
“The authorities have the opportunity to backtrack on their verbal commitments, which would further strengthen that lever. I sincerely don’t know what Nikol Pashinyan is thinking: whether he wants to sign, to procrastinate, to hesitate – it’s hard to say, but I think signing such a document won’t be easy for Pashinyan. Its content has no relation to the interests of the Armenian people. Naturally, this could be delayed, and that is where the danger lies,” Oskanian stated.
