The blockade of the Lachin Corridor is causing famine in Nagorno-Karabakh, Forbes reports
On August 7, 2023, a group of UN experts raised concerns about the alarming situation in Nagorno-Karabakh due to Azerbaijan's ongoing blockade of the Lachin Corridor, according to Forbes.
As they emphasized, the blockade has led to acute shortages of essential food, medications, and hygiene products. It has also adversely affected the operation of medical and educational institutions, jeopardizing the lives of people, especially children, the disabled, the elderly, pregnant women, and patients.
The UN experts have called on Azerbaijan to immediately restore the free and safe movement of people, vehicles, and goods through the Lachin Corridor, in accordance with the ceasefire agreement reached in November 2020.
It is noted that the horrific situation prevailing in Nagorno-Karabakh must finally be taken seriously and action taken. As Nagorno-Karabakh faces famine, the international community can no longer look away, as it has done over the past eight months. The people of Nagorno-Karabakh urgently need assistance—without any additional justification.
