We Cannot Say Anything About Russia; It Is Not a Party to the Conflict, Says US State Department Spokesman
US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller has commented on the statements from Russia regarding Armenian-Azerbaijani negotiations, emphasizing that rushing into a peace treaty would create new conflicts.
“We cannot say anything about Russia. Moreover, I want to talk about the countries that are directly involved in the matters at hand, which are the parties to the conflict. We are working directly with those countries; Special Envoy Bono visited the region last week and engaged in direct talks. We believe that, despite the comments from other countries that are not parties to this conflict, a peace agreement is achievable, and we will continue working with them towards this goal,” he said.
It should be noted that Russian Foreign Ministry’s Director of the Fourth Department for the CIS Denis Gonchar has stated that the attempt to hastily conclude a peace treaty between Azerbaijan and Armenia, to the detriment of quality and proper preparation, would lead to new conflicts in the future.
