Autumn Will Be Hot: On One Side, Parliamentary Sessions, On the Other, Municipal Elections – 'Zhoghovurd'
'Zhoghovurd' newspaper reports that the Parliament will resume its work on September 12. According to parliamentary sources from the newspaper, the new parliamentary session is expected to be intense, with several important and controversial legislative proposals set for discussion. Among these is the bill of the 'Hayak've' initiative, which imposes severe penalties for renouncing the self-determination of Nagorno-Karabakh and undermining the significance of the Armenian Genocide. This bill is expected to come to the Parliament in mid-September and will require a majority vote from the deputies to be adopted.
The newspaper has learned from its governmental sources that the ruling Civil Contract Party (CPP) has already made a final decision to vote against the bill. The longstanding and much-debated Rome Statute will also be discussed in the new parliamentary session, which is still with the government. The party members have not yet determined how to approach this proposal, seeking to avoid exacerbating already tense relations with Russia.
This indecision is why the bill remains in limbo, as the government has not yet forwarded it to the Parliament. Thus, we can conclude that autumn will be intense, featuring parliamentary sessions on one side and municipal elections on the other.
