Video: Cause of Explosion at Turkey's Western Kocaeli Port Revealed
The cause of the explosion that occurred at Turkey's western Kocaeli port may have been the explosion of grain dust. This was announced by Kocaeli Governor Seddar Yavuz during a broadcast on TRT television.
According to him, the explosion happened during the unloading of wheat from ships, due to the creation of grain dust in the elevators. He noted that it is technically possible for a grain dust explosion to occur. Yavuz stated that this is currently the authorities' hypothesis.
"Experts will investigate the incident in more detail," added Yavuz. As reported by CNN Turk, the explosion occurred in the elevator at the port during the loading of the ship with grain.
The explosion took place around 14:40 local time (coinciding with Moscow time), and according to IHA agency, the tremors from the explosion were felt in the nearby town of Gölcük.
