Commander of the 2nd Army Corps Issues Statement from NSS Isolation Facility

The commander of the Ministry of Defense's 2nd Army Corps, General Araik Harutyunyan, has issued a statement from the National Security Service's isolation facility. This was reported by ArmLur.am.

“Dear compatriots, the 2nd Army Corps operating under my command has been one of the few units in which the enemy did not make any advances or capture any combat positions during the 44-day war.

Now, as absurd as it sounds, I am being accused of violating the rules of combat duty or service, which, according to the investigation body, resulted in the armed forces of Azerbaijan crossing and penetrating the state border of the Republic of Armenia on May 12, 2021, through certain sections of the line of contact in the Gegharkunik region near the communities of Verin Shorja, Kut, and Norabak.

Although the initial charges were legally unfounded and baseless, I have refrained from making statements throughout the investigation, confident that in the end, the prosecuting body would recognize that the charges against me are unjustified and do not withstand reasonable scrutiny,” he wrote.

It is worth noting that General Araik Harutyunyan has been in custody for seven months.

The prosecutor's office reported that the commander of military unit N of the RA Ministry of Defense, A.H., having the obligation to make timely decisions regarding combat duty, assign tasks to subordinates, control their execution, prevent violations of the state border and line of contact, and exclude and thwart potential sudden attacks by the enemy, on April 15, 2021, learned that the requirements of an order issued by him on April 5, 2021, were not being fulfilled, and did not take any actions to ensure compliance with the order’s requirements.
