Vagharshak Hakobyan's Salary Increased by Nearly One Million: The Property of the CP Representative
“Jamanak” newspaper reports:
The representative of the Civil Contract faction in the National Assembly of Armenia, Vagharshak Hakobyan, was one of the young individuals closely associated with Mkhitar Hayrapetyan during the days of the "Velvet Revolution," where he made selfless speeches, becoming a favorite of the authorities in parliament. Like many of his homeless colleagues from the Civil Contract party, he also bought a house with a mortgage and is accumulating funds. In 2020, he acquired a mortgaged apartment in the Arabkir administrative district of Yerevan but reported another house in the Kentron administrative district, which does not actually belong to him but is used by the representative. It remains unclear with whom he is living and in exchange for what, as the representative did not disclose this information.
Currently, Hakobyan has stated that he does not own a car; however, according to his 2021 declaration, he sold a vehicle acquired in 2018 for $7,900. His declared loans in the 2021 report amounted to 30 million drams, of which 26 million was the mortgage issued by the HayEconomy Bank. Notably, nothing was recorded in this section of the 2022 declaration.
His bank account balances amounted to 935,000 drams, with cash holdings of $17,000 and 11 million drams. The newspaper notes that Vagharshak Hakobyan's reported income for the year was 8,234,000 drams, which is his salary from the National Assembly staff. Compared to previous years, his salary has increased by nearly one million, as he is fulfilling the duties of the chairman of the Standing Committee on Regional and Eurasian Integration of the National Assembly. However, how this governmental representative has amassed such wealth on a parliamentary salary remains carefully concealed.
