EU Expands Sanctions Against Belarus

The EU Council has expanded sanctions against Belarus and prohibited the import of a number of military-related goods and technologies into the country. This was reported by Interfax, citing a press release from the European Commission.

The restrictions will affect the export of goods and technologies that contribute to military-technical development. Furthermore, the EU is imposing an additional ban on the export of firearms and ammunition. The sanctions also extend to the supply of aerospace industry technologies.

The European Commission notes that the restrictions are being applied due to Belarus's involvement in Russia's actions in Ukraine. The EU has pledged to align its sanctions regime against Belarus with its anti-Russian restrictions.

It is worth noting that in July, EU countries' ambassadors agreed to adopt restrictive measures against Belarus due to the internal political situation in the country and its participation in Russia's aggression against Ukraine.
