No Change in Armenian Position on Deployment of CSTO Observers, Ministry of Foreign Affairs

There is no change in the Armenian position regarding the deployment of a CSTO monitoring mission along the Armenia-Azerbaijan border. This was stated to "Radar Armenia" by the spokesperson of the Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ani Badalyan.

Previously, the Director of the First Department of CIS Countries at the Russian Foreign Ministry, Mikhail Agasandyan, announced that the CSTO is ready to return to discussions about deploying an observer mission at the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan and is awaiting a response from Yerevan.

"The Armenian position on the deployment of a CSTO monitoring mission at the international border of Armenia and Azerbaijan has been presented, and there is currently no change on this issue," Badalyan stated.

In April, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced that Yerevan is prepared to deploy a CSTO mission at the border with Azerbaijan. Previously, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan noted during a joint press conference with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov that Yerevan had not refused the CSTO mission at the republic's borders.

The CSTO comprises six member states: Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, and Tajikistan.

In late May, Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu emphasized the importance of the Armenian side's participation in joint operational and combat readiness measures within the CSTO framework. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, discussing the prospects of Armenia's participation in the Collective Security Treaty Organization, highlighted that Russia will continue dialogue with its Armenian friends, including on CSTO matters.
