Territorial Disputes Between Yerevan and Baku Should Be Resolved Within the Framework of Border Demarcation, Says Russian Foreign Ministry

The territorial disputes between Armenia and Azerbaijan should be resolved within the framework of the border demarcation and delimitation process along the Armenian-Azerbaijani border. This was stated by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, during a press briefing, responding to a question regarding Russia's position on Azerbaijan's demand for the return of seven "enclaves" in the Ararat and Tavush regions.

“We are aware of Baku's position on this issue, while the Armenian side has similar demands towards Azerbaijan. We proceed from the notion that territorial disputes should be resolved within the demarcation and delimitation process,” Zakharova said. She added that the process of de-escalation is coordinated by the relevant bilateral commission, and we welcome the fact that the fourth meeting took place on July 12 after a long pause.

According to her, Russia is ready to provide the parties with consultative, expert, and documentary support for solving all, even the most complex issues.

It is noteworthy that on July 12, a meeting was held between Armenian Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan and Azerbaijani Deputy Prime Minister Shahin Mustafayev at the Armenia-Azerbaijan border near the Tavush region of Armenia and the Gazakh region of Azerbaijan. According to the official statement, the parties continued discussions on border demarcation issues and addressed several organizational and procedural questions.
