Garik Karapetyan Wins Gold at European Weightlifting U20 Championship

Member of the Armenian weightlifting team, Garik Karapetyan (102 kg), has won a gold medal at the ongoing European Weightlifting Championships for U20 and U23 in Bucharest, Romania. This was reported by the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports.

In the U20 category, the Armenian weightlifter achieved a total of 386 kg (181+205) in the clean and jerk, standing on the top step of the podium. Karapetyan also earned small gold medals in the snatch and clean and jerk disciplines.

It is noteworthy that Garik Karapetyan had also earned the title of champion in April at the European Senior Championships in Yerevan with a total lift of 392 kg.

Today, on August 2, Julieta Avanesyan (+87 kg) will compete in the U20 category, while Liana Gyurjyan (87 kg), Petros Petrosyan, and Yasha Minasyan (109 kg) will compete for medals in the U23 category.

Earlier in the U23 category, Rafik Harutyunyan (81 kg) and Garnik Cholakyan (61 kg) were awarded gold medals in the total lift, while Karen Margaryan (81 kg) became a silver medalist.

In the U20 category, Suren Grigoryan (89 kg) has also been awarded the champion's title. Tigran Karapetyan (67 kg), Gor Sahakyan (73 kg), and Emma Poghosyan (81 kg) have secured silver medals, while Alexandrap Grigoryan (58 kg), Seyran Khudanyan (55 kg), Meruzhan Yeghoyan (61 kg), Martin Poghosyan (73 kg), and Mnatsakan Abrahamyan (81 kg) have become bronze medalists.

The European Youth Championship is taking place from July 23 to August 3.
