Armenia Wins First Medal at the European Weightlifting Championships for Under-20

The European Weightlifting Championships for athletes under 20 and under 23 have kicked off in Bucharest, Romania, where Armenia has secured its first medal. This information was reported by the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports.

In the under-20 category, Armenian representative Seyran Khudanyan (55 kg) achieved a total lift of 216 kg (95+121) and earned a bronze medal, standing on the third step of the podium. The Armenian weightlifter also won a small bronze medal in the clean and jerk event.

Today, another Armenian athlete, Merujan Yeghoyan (61 kg), will compete in the under-20 category, while Garnik Cholakyan (61 kg) will represent Armenia in the under-23 category.

Armenia sent a large team to the competition: the under-20 squad includes Seyran Khudanyan (55 kg), Merujan Yeghoyan (61 kg), Tigran Karapetyan (67 kg), Gor Sahakyan, Martin Poghosyan (both 73 kg), Mnatsakan Abrahamyan (81 kg), Suren Grigoryan (89 kg), Felix Gevorgyan (96 kg), Garik Karapetyan (102 kg), and reserves Ashot Movsisyan and Vazgen Grigoryan (+109 kg).

The women’s team consists of Aleksandra Grigoryan (59 kg), Anush Arshakyan (64 kg), Alina Sukiasyan (71 kg), Anna Amroyan (76 kg), Emma Poghosyan (81 kg), Margarita Arakelyan (87 kg), and Julieta Avanesyan (+87 kg).

The under-23 squad features Garnik Cholakyan (61 kg), Rafik Harutyunyan, Karen Margaryan (81 kg), Gevorg Ghahramanyan (89 kg, reserve), Ara Aghanyan (96 kg), Petros Petrosyan, Yasha Minasian (both 109 kg), Liana Gyurjian (87 kg), Luiza Saharadyan, and Meri Tumasyan (+87 kg).

The European Youth Championships are taking place from July 23 to August 3.
