Armenian Teen Weightlifters Take First Place in Team Standings at European Championship

In the recently concluded European Championship for weightlifting among M15 and M17 athletes in the capital of Moldova, Chisinau, the Armenian national team secured first place in the team standings, winning a total of 5 gold, 1 silver, and 4 bronze medals in the combined event. This was reported by the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports of Armenia.

On the final competitive day yesterday, Armenian athlete Ashot Margaryan, competing in the 102 kg category, stood on the third step of the podium, becoming a bronze medalist with a combined weight of 312 kg. Earlier, 16-year-old Emma Poghosyan became a double winner of the European Championship. In the 81 kg weight category, Emma secured a gold medal with a combined result of 225 kg (96+129 kg). In the snatch and clean and jerk events, the Armenian athlete also earned minor gold medals.

The title of European champion in the youth category was also claimed by Valerik Movsisyan in the 89 kg weight class, who became a gold medalist with a combined result of 305 kg. Movsisyan lifted 145 kg in the snatch and 160 kg in the clean and jerk, earning additional minor gold medals in those categories.

The next gold medal for the Armenian team was provided by Anna Amroyan. In the under 17 competition, Amroyan won the title in the 76 kg weight category with a combined weight of 209 kg (92+117 kg). She also earned minor gold medals in the snatch and clean and jerk.

The titles of European champions were also won by Zhora Grigoryan (61 kg) and Seryozha Barseghyan (67 kg).

Furthermore, earlier in the competition, Armenian athlete Hovhannes Ghahramanyan earned a silver medal in the 81 kg category with a combined result of 312 kg (140+172 kg), while Karlen Davtyan (49 kg), Yughaber Amroyan (40 kg), and Alina Sukiasyan (71 kg) became bronze medalists.

The Armenian men's team was coached by Yervand Kirakosyan and Harutyun Yeghoyan, while the girls' team was led by Taron Tovmasyan and Kristine Petrosyan.

It is worth noting that in April of this year, the Armenian youth weightlifting team also secured first place in the team standings at the World Championship for M17 athletes held in Durrës, Albania. Armenian teen weightlifters earned 6 medals in the combined event.

Seryozha Barseghyan in the 67 kg category was recognized as the World Championship winner, while Gagik Mkrtchyan in the +102 kg category won a silver medal, and Valerik Movsisyan (89 kg) and Ashot Margaryan (96 kg) became bronze medalists. In the girls' category, Anna Amroyan (76 kg) and Emma Poghosyan (81 kg) showed the third-best results in the combined event.
