Azerbaijanis Have the Right to Return to Armenia After Armenian-Azerbaijani Settlement: Aliyev

Azerbaijan desires peace with Armenia and has no territorial claims against the country. This was stated by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev in an interview with Euronews, where he emphasized, however, that Azerbaijanis displaced from Armenia have the "right to return" following the Armenian-Azerbaijani settlement.

"My message to Armenia is as follows: we want peace with their state. We have no territorial claims against the Armenians, although prior to the war, 'hundreds of thousands of Azerbaijanis' lived in Armenia, who were subjected to 'ethnic cleansing,' and their cultural and religious heritage was 'completely destroyed.' However, we have no territorial claims. But we believe that Azerbaijanis 'forcibly displaced' from Armenia have the 'right' to return there when Azerbaijan and Armenia settle their relations and establish diplomatic relations," Aliyev stated.
