This is Similar to the Interrogation of a Captive, Which Should Not Be Taken Seriously: Karen Vrtanesyan

The former Minister of Defense, Davit Tonoyan, was invited to the National Assembly today to participate in a session of the commission examining the circumstances of the 44-day war. The head of the commission submitted a special request to the judicial authority to allow the detained former official to attend and answer the questions of the investigative commission. Essentially, Tonoyan’s public responses contained no new information, continuing the narrative and thought process driven by the current authorities.

Military expert Karen Vrtanesyan addressed Tonoyan's statements in an interview with MediaHub.am. According to him, this interrogation of Tonoyan resembles that of a captive, and no one takes the thoughts expressed during the interrogations of captives seriously.

“Does the National Assembly even have the right to conduct an interrogation with a detained person who cannot freely answer questions in any case? This could be a political deal, or it might not be. But in any case, this resembles the interrogation of a captive. No one takes the interrogations of captives seriously because these individuals say what is expected of them to save their lives,” Vrtanesyan noted.

The expert remarked that in this case, Davit Tonoyan is a hostage, and as such, his words have no legal value. “Moreover, it is also important that this commission cannot conduct an objective investigation into the crimes perpetrated by the very authority that is represented in that commission. All of this is merely a tool of pressure against generals. It’s also a means to show that, well, what could poor Nikol have done? Therefore, I wouldn’t take anything Davit Tonoyan says seriously at this point. Once there is a change of power in Armenia, if we can indeed maintain Armenia as a state, then we can talk about an objective investigation. But discussing objectivity at this moment is meaningless,” the military expert summarized in his conversation with the media outlet.
