Germany Supports EU Efforts for Lasting Peace Between Armenia and Azerbaijan
The German government supports EU efforts aimed at establishing lasting peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan. The Federal Government maintains constant communication with representatives from both Armenia and Azerbaijan in this process.
This was stated by the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs in response to questions from the Haypress news agency operating in Germany.
Haypress directed the following questions to the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs:
- Is Germany present during the diplomats' visit aimed at witnessing the blockade of humanitarian cargo shipments by Azerbaijan?
- What actions has Germany taken in this regard?
In its response, the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated, "The Federal Government supports EU efforts aimed at establishing lasting peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan. The Federal Government maintains constant communication with representatives from both Armenia and Azerbaijan.
The German Embassy in Yerevan remains in continuous contact with both the Armenian government and civil society, as well as with the EU mission in Armenia. Regarding the humanitarian situation in Nagorno-Karabakh, the embassy regularly collaborates with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), through which Germany allocates the largest volumes of humanitarian assistance intended for Nagorno-Karabakh. Germany supports the international court's decision regarding the free movement of people and goods through the Lachin corridor, which must guarantee the provision of vital needs for the population of Nagorno-Karabakh."
On July 26, Armenia sent 361 tons of humanitarian aid to Nagorno-Karabakh. However, the convoy of trucks carrying humanitarian aid has been stranded at the Kornidzor border area in the Lachin corridor for the sixth day, as Azerbaijan is not allowing their entry into Nagorno-Karabakh. On July 28, representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited in Armenia visited the beginning of the Lachin corridor to familiarize themselves with the current situation.
