Artsakh's Foreign Ministry Comments on Reports of Possible Dialogue Between Baku and Stepanakert
The Foreign Ministry of Artsakh, acknowledging the public interest in the potential start of dialogue between Stepanakert and Baku, has stated that it does not find it appropriate to comment on individual meetings that have not occurred for reasons beyond its control. This was noted by the Ministry in response to inquiries from the Armenian news agency ‘Armenpress’ regarding reports circulating in the Armenian information space about a possible meeting between representatives of the Republic of Artsakh and Azerbaijan.
“We would especially like to emphasize that the authorities of the Republic of Artsakh are always ready to discuss reasonable proposals for organizing meetings between representatives of Artsakh and Azerbaijan. Moreover, the Artsakh side regularly puts forward initiatives and proposals for organizing meetings between representatives of Artsakh and Azerbaijan with the participation of mediators,” added the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Artsakh.
At the same time, the department expressed confidence that the success of dialogue depends on the genuine interest and good faith approach of both sides to resolve their disagreements. “We have such an interest on our part. If the Azerbaijani side also shows such willingness, it will pave the way for the start of dialogue. In this context, we again emphasize that dialogue between Artsakh and Azerbaijan should take place in a mutually agreed format endowed with an appropriate mandate,” said the Foreign Ministry of Artsakh, adding that such an approach would allow the international community to become more actively involved in the negotiation process, strengthen its legitimacy and sustainability, and provide reliable guarantees for the implementation of possible agreements between the parties.
