VIDEO: New Devices Installed in Yerevan Buses Accept Coins and Return Change

Prior to the implementation of a unified ticketing system, a new device that accepts coins has been installed on two bus routes in Yerevan. Unlike the previous 100 dram coin acceptors, the new equipment accepts 50, 100, 200, and 500 dram coins and returns change. This was reported by the information department of the Yerevan City Hall.

“We have introduced an innovation on the ‘MAN’ brand buses number 35 and 74. We have experimentally installed a device that returns change, so passengers do not have to give money to the driver. This is a temporary solution until we transition to a unified ticketing system,” said Hovhannes Manukyan, the director of “Yerevan Bus” LLC.

The change has been made to avoid giving fare money to the driver, preventing distractions. For citizens, this is still a novelty, unusual, but also important. Informational posters will also be displayed.

“Drivers are asking passengers to use buses with coins. Officials responsible for the city’s transport sector emphasize that this solution is temporary. Under the public transport reform program, a unified ticketing system will be implemented in all buses,” the statement said.
