Inspector Did Not See My Daughter Before the Accident: Videos Examined in Sona Mnatsakanyan's Case
Videos have been examined in the case concerning the pedestrian accident involving Sona Mnatsakanyan, which occurred due to the motorcade of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan at the intersection of Paronyan and Leo streets in Yerevan. This information was provided by Sona Mnatsakanyan's father, Mnatsakan Mnatsakanyan, in a conversation with NEWS.am.
“We are not satisfied with the court sessions. During the latest court session, the videos present in the case were reviewed. It is clearly seen in the videos that the inspector did not even see my daughter before the accident. During the previous court session, the driver, who is an officer of the Patrol Service, was in the front row and provided false testimony, claiming that the inspector saw Sona and even tried to signal her not to cross the street, but Sona crossed anyway. The inspector has given evidently false testimony, but so far he has not been held accountable for it,” stated Mnatsakan Mnatsakanyan.
It is noteworthy that it has been a year since the tragic incident where Sona Mnatsakanyan was struck by the motorcade of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. The case is currently in the trial phase, witnesses are being interrogated, but the victim's relatives and their lawyer have expressed dissatisfaction with the proceedings.
The case has only proceeded against the driver, while no criminal proceedings have been initiated against the leader of the motorcade. This decision has been appealed by the victim's side, and the Court of Appeals has recorded a violation of the victim's successor rights, obliging the prosecuting authority to rectify the violations. It has also been noted that no objective investigation has been conducted.
The Deputy Prosecutor General has appealed the Court of Appeals' decision to the Supreme Court, but it is still unknown whether the court has accepted or rejected the appeal.
Recall that on April 26, around 18:05, at the Paronyan-Leo intersection, the commander of the escorting police unit of the Road Police of the Republic of Armenia struck a 28-year-old resident of Ararat Province with a Toyota Prado vehicle, resulting in bodily injuries that led to her death at the Nairi Medical Center, where she did not regain consciousness. The motorcade was escorting Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan at the time, and the deceased woman was pregnant.
