Borel's EU Statement on Artsakh is Very Clear, Says British Expert
Borel's EU statement regarding Artsakh is very clear: the humanitarian situation is dire. This was stated by British expert Thomas de Waal from the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace in his Twitter microblog.
“Borel's EU statement on Artsakh is very clear: the humanitarian situation is dire. Azerbaijan must open the Lachin corridor for supplies. The Aghdam (Aknar) road will not be an alternative, but rather a complement to the Lachin corridor. The work of the International Committee of the Red Cross should not be obstructed. Less clear is what Baku will do,” de Waal wrote.
It is noteworthy that yesterday the EU's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, made a statement indicating that the supply of goods via Aghdam should not be seen as an alternative to the opening of the Lachin corridor. Borrell also mentioned that Azerbaijan's assistant to the president, Hikmet Hajiyev, claimed that “politicizing and asserting the exclusive use of the Lachin road while rejecting and closing the Aghdam (Aknar) road is unacceptable.”
