VIDEO: How an Attempt to Escape an Inmate Was Foiled

On July 26, shortly after midnight, a police officer at the Sevan police department noticed unusual behavior from an inmate while conducting a tour of the detention area. Upon entering the cell to understand the cause, the officer suddenly heard voices calling the inmate's name from outside as the cell window opened.

The officer immediately exited, locked the door, and pressed the alarm button. The staff on duty, led by the operational deputy chief, sprang into action with the alarm.

During the inspection of the detention facility's territory, a metal cutting tool wrapped in a sheet was discovered on the roof of the outdoor patio.

As a result of operational and investigative measures undertaken by the department’s personnel, three men, all residents of Yerevan, were apprehended around 1:30 AM on Sayat Nova Street in Sevan, suspected of attempting to unlawfully free the inmate. They were transported to the department in a 'Mazda' vehicle.

During the search of the apprehension site, a knife and a package of aluminum foil containing a crystalline substance were found. A personal search in the department revealed that one of the arrested individuals possessed a knife with a secret latch. Additionally, another suspect was found to have scratches on his forearms during a body search.

A criminal case has been initiated in the Sevan investigative division regarding the incident. All necessary actions have been carried out, and circumstances are currently being clarified during the preliminary investigation.
