EU Plans to Tighten Sanctions Against Belarus
On July 26, the Committee of Permanent Representatives of the European Union (Coreper) is set to discuss the possibility of tightening sanctions against Minsk. This was reported by TASS, citing the agenda of the committee's meeting.
According to information from diplomatic sources, the EU expects to synchronize its anti-Belarusian sanctions regime with those imposed on Russia. It is noted, however, that no exceptions will be made for fertilizers from Belarus, which the EU continues to purchase.
If the commission can reach an agreement on two key issues—abandoning the import of Belarusian fertilizers and imposing a ban on the supply of dual-use goods from Belarus—then sanctions against Minsk could come into effect in the coming days.
