We Came to Tsaghkadzor to Relax, We Will Return Anxious: Alert from 'Iravunk'

'Iravunk' newspaper reports: 'A group of intellectuals and cultural figures have issued a statement alerting that Tsaghkadzor is being devastated at a catastrophic pace, with forests, valleys, and natural springs being destroyed to make way for multifunctional high-rise buildings.

What is actually happening? 'Iravunk' investigated on-site: More than ten to twelve-story residential buildings have already been constructed or are in the process of construction, mainly through the destruction of forests. Moreover, it's not just the construction that has caused a stir in Tsaghkadzor; the roads are also in disrepair. Locals say that this has been the situation for the second year now. It turns out that incorrect water lines were laid in the first year, and now another organization is fixing the road by demolishing the new, but incorrectly built road.

Those vacationing in the area are complaining, saying that people are paying 50,000 drams to stay in hotels in Tsaghkadzor, but instead of breathing clean air, they are inhaling an enormous amount of dust. 'Right now in Yerevan, there is probably cleaner air than in Tsaghkadzor. We came to relax, but we will return feeling anxious,' said one of the families that is likely spending their last vacation in Tsaghkadzor.'

More details are available in today's issue of the newspaper.
