Armenia Plans to Build a Dam on the Border with Turkey

In the Ararat region, between the communities of Araksavan and Burastan, the cost of constructing a dam to restore the Araks River to its former course will amount to approximately $1 million. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure of Armenia in response to an inquiry from ArmeniaSputnik.

When asked about the source of funding, the ministry responded that "relevant discussions are currently ongoing." According to project preliminary estimates, the duration of construction work will be 16 months from the moment the contract comes into effect.

Regarding the cost of the project, based on the project documents, around 384.7 million AMD will be required for construction works, as well as technical and authorial supervision. Of this amount, 378 million will cover construction works, approximately 5 million for technical supervision, and 1.5 million for authorial supervision.

As a reminder, due to illegal sand extraction, the Araks River, which runs along the border with Turkey, has changed its course, leading to the formation of an island covering approximately 400 hectares outside its banks.
