VIDEO. "Shame on you, there is starvation in Artsakh, open the road" - Protest of Artsakh residents in front of the UN office
The members of the "We are Artsakh" initiative, which has joined the public movement in Artsakh, gathered once again in front of the UN office in Armenia to address the international community.
The participants of the action declared that they stand with the people of Artsakh and that Artsakh is not alone. Artsakh resident Arevik Petrosyan voiced their demand to open a humanitarian corridor to prevent fellow countrymen from starving to death in Artsakh. “We are also here to support the women who have gone on hunger strike in solidarity with the starving population of Artsakh,” emphasized a participant of the demonstration.
Former Human Rights Defender of Armenia Larisa Alaverdyan added that people in Artsakh are facing starvation not only due to Azerbaijan but also the silence of international institutions. “Ensure either a land or air corridor. We do not want food from you; we will bring it ourselves. It is shameful to let 120,000 Armenians, including 30,000 children, starve. It is shameful, there is starvation in Artsakh, open the road. Why have you opened offices in every country? You can do it, but you don’t. Open the road to life, or close your office,” stated Alaverdyan.
It is noteworthy that in support of their fellow countrymen under blockade, residents of Artsakh are also collecting food in front of the UN office in Yerevan. Let us remind that a public movement has begun in Artsakh, with residents setting up tents in Renaissance Square and initiating an indefinite sit-in. The President of Artsakh Arayik Harutyunyan has also joined the sit-in. Protests are also taking place in Yerevan in support of Artsakh residents in front of the UN office and the embassies of the countries of the OSCE Minsk Group.
