No land will be given to any university in central Yerevan, they should go to the Academic City: Nikol Pashinyan
The Minister of Defense, Suren Papikyan, has shared important news with Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, who in turn discussed this development during a government meeting. According to Pashinyan, this year there is expected to be a significant number of applicants at the Vazgen Sargsyan Military University. He explained that this is connected to the fact that officers who are accepted, graduated, and have started their service will receive housing upon entering service.
“It will be considered their property, but they will not be able to sell it until the end of their service. Presumably, the apartments could also be located in Yerevan, but if they serve in Syunik, they can rent these apartments out to better meet their family's needs. In other words, they will receive a doubled salary along with income from renting the apartment,” Pashinyan elaborated.
The Prime Minister also announced that the government’s program includes the establishment of a military university and a military high school, which will be located in the Academic City. Pashinyan clarified that this project has already entered the implementation phase, and they will soon have the main plan, starting a phased execution of the designs.
The Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports, Zhanna Andreasyan, also presented the admission statistics for universities. In response, Pashinyan noted that there is a crisis that needs to be overcome, and they have the tools to address it.
Later, Nikol Pashinyan spoke about the construction of the Academic City and reforms in universities: “There are foreign universities operating in Armenia that are applying to us, asking for land, ideally in central Yerevan, to build department buildings. We will not give anyone land in central Yerevan; we will grant land in the Academic City, and the choice is very clear, everyone must adapt. This will be non-negotiable,” the government leader stated.
