‘Citizens’ Suspicions About Water Quality Changes Were Not Unfounded’: MP
Garnik Danielyan, a member of the Armenian Parliament from the 'Hayastan' faction, writes: 'Considering the numerous concerns and complaints from citizens regarding the quality of drinking water recently, I sent an inquiry to the Health and Labor Inspection Body of Armenia.
I requested clarification on whether the Inspection Body had investigated the issue and if sampling had been conducted to ascertain the quality of the water. I received a response stating that since January 1, 2023, the organizations operating the drinking water supply system, as well as local self-government and state bodies, were addressed with 194 preventive notices.
A total of 112 administrative proceedings have been initiated, of which 106 were initiated by the Inspection Body’s own initiative, while 6 were based on complaints received from citizens.
About 24 orders have been issued to the responsible officials of the operating organizations to rectify the identified violations. Responsible officials have been subjected to administrative penalties.
From all this, it can be inferred that citizens’ suspicions regarding changes in water quality were indeed not unfounded. The initiation of 112 administrative proceedings already raises concerns. I consider it necessary to tighten administrative practices and apply stricter sanctions, as we are dealing with public health.
The relevant bodies bear a tremendous responsibility in this matter. Emphasizing public health and safety, I will pursue the issue and its solution.'
